Five Offline RPGs Worth Your Storage Space

Offline RPGs are a rare treat these days. So many games hide a story-driven core behind an always-online wall. The ones that don't deserve a bit of praise.

Embergate Saga is my current favorite. The turn-based fights are readable, the story has real weight, and it saves everything locally. I finished most of it on planes and trains.

When picking an offline RPG, check two things: does it save on the device, and does the opening respect your time. A slow first hour is forgivable if the game opens up. A forced tutorial that never ends is not.

Battery is the other quiet enemy. RPGs with heavy 3D worlds drain a phone fast, so if you play on the move, lower the brightness and keep an eye on the clock.

Whatever you choose, test it in airplane mode before you commit. Some 'offline' RPGs still sneak in a login check, and there's nothing worse than a spinner where the menu should be.
